What to Know About Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady in 2026

Brilliant Lady has been sailing for a year now, so this is no longer a guess about what she might be. I have been on board, including her crossing from the UK to New York, and here is what is actually different.

The short version: the ship itself is almost identical to the other three. What changed is the entertainment, one restaurant, a couple of spaces, and one new cabin type.

There is also a bigger shift underneath all of it, and it is the thing repeat sailors notice within a day. I will get to that honestly near the end.

If you have sailed Virgin Voyages before, read the last two sections. If this is your first, you can stop worrying: almost everything people warn you about turns out to be a misunderstanding.

Brilliant Lady: The Short Version

She is the fourth ship in the fleet, after Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady, and she entered service in late 2025.

The thing that actually matters about her build: she is the first Virgin Voyages ship that fits through the Panama Canal. She is slightly slimmer than her sisters, and the lifeboats sit differently to allow it.

That one engineering decision is why she sails places the others cannot, and it is also the reason for the new cabin type further down. Everything traces back to it.

The pool party still happens. It just depends on the weather.

She also works from homeports the fleet has not used before, including New York, Los Angeles and Seattle alongside Miami. That opens up Alaska and the Pacific coast.

One misperception worth killing now: she went to New York and she is not gone for good. People saw the New York sailings announced and assumed that was permanent. Go and look at the schedule.

Most of the Ship Is the Same Ship

This is the single most useful thing I can tell you, and it is the opposite of what most people expect from a new ship.

People assume every restaurant is new and the whole layout has been reimagined. It has not. The same restaurants are in the same places. The layout is the layout.

The restrooms are still in the same confusing spots they are on every other Lady ship. If you have sailed before, your muscle memory works here.

And if you do get lost, the answer is the same as always: go to mid, then work out where you are.

So if you are booking Brilliant Lady hoping for an entirely new ship, adjust that. What is genuinely new is what is on top of the ship rather than the ship itself, which is the next three sections.

What Is Actually New On Board

Two spaces changed in ways I noticed immediately, and both are about where Brilliant Lady is going.

Deck 7, the roundabout, has been completely redone and it is the change I did not expect to care about. It is now a genuinely comfortable place to gather and sit, rather than somewhere you walk through.

The logic is obvious once you are sailing Alaska. You cannot send everybody up to deck 16 when it is cold outside, so there is more indoor space designed to enjoy the view from behind glass.

I ended up spending an evening there watching live music, which is not a sentence I would have written about deck 7 on any other ship.

The Athletic Club the indoor area has remained the same, but the outdoor area has been opened up and is different.

The Athletic Club (outdoor area) has been opened up and looks different from the version on the other ships. Same idea, different design.

Neither of these is a reason to book on its own. Together they tell you what this ship is for: longer, cooler itineraries where the inside of the ship has to work harder.

The Slightly Smaller Sea Terrace, Brilliant Lady Only

Here is the misperception I have had to correct more than any other about this ship.

People saw two hammocks and concluded every Sea Terrace now has two. That is not what happened. There is a new cabin type, the Slightly Smaller Sea Terrace, and it is the one with two hammocks.

They sit mostly on deck 8, with a handful on decks 9, 10, and 11. They exist because of the Panama Canal build: the lifeboats moved, and those balconies shrank.

The word slightly is generous. The balcony is less than half the size of a normal one, and the door is hinged rather than sliding, so you cannot prop it open on a cool evening.

Inside it is the same cabin: same bed, same fridge, same bathroom, same closet. Every difference is on the balcony.

Who it suits: two people who sit upright with a drink and talk. Two hammocks side by side is genuinely lovely for that, and it costs less.

Who it does not: anyone who lies flat in the hammock for hours. You cannot stretch out. If the balcony is the reason you book a balcony, pay the difference.

One more thing to check before you book deck 8: views there are often obstructed, and it is a lower deck, which matters if you are prone to motion.

Don’t forget to pack THIS!

Virgin Voyages has reimagined sailing and what you need to pack on for this trip is DIFFERENT than a normal cruise line. There are many items I wish I knew to bring (that I didn’t have with me on my first sailing).

The Entertainment Is Where Brilliant Lady Is Most Different

If one thing justifies sailing her over a ship you already know, it is this. The lineup is not a copy of the others.

Murder in the Manor is the one I would book first. Twists, genuinely funny, and worth knowing that it is not interactive. I went in braced to be pulled on stage and you simply sit and enjoy it.

Duets is an evening of singing in The Manor and it is a completely different energy. I called it a red wine kind of night and I stand by that.

Out of Time is a time travel comedy musical with a lot of singing and dancing. Sit back, enjoy, do not overthink it.

The entertainment lineup is not a copy of the other ships.

Up With a Twist is the one to plan around. It is dinner and a show, you have to sign up in advance, and it carries a fee because it comes with a lot of drinks. Supper club energy, and it sells out.

Beyond the headline shows, the volume of Happenings Cast programming is the part that surprised me. There is a new diva show, and the sheer number of additional events is close to overwhelming in the best way.

The Parties, and the Scarlet Night Misunderstanding

Let me deal with the big one first, because it has genuinely put people off booking.

The Scarlet Night pool party has not been cancelled. It is weather-dependent, which is a different thing entirely.

Good weather, you get the pool party you have seen in every video. Cold or wet, and in Alaska that is likely, it moves inside and becomes a different version of Scarlet Night with more programming rather than less.

Electric, Bingo Blitz and Disco Circus are all new.

The same applies to the drama party. Still happening, still outside when the weather allows, and when it moves inside it is no longer confined to The Manor. More rooms, more options, more ways to enjoy it at whatever energy you have that night.

Three parties are properly new:

  • Electric. High-energy dance night, neon, exactly what it sounds like.
  • Bingo Blitz. Cheeky, over the top, and you will be standing rather than sitting. It turns into a club night by the end.
  • Disco Circus. The reimagined version of what used to be Circus Disco, with the ship’s acrobats in it.

The Food You Can Only Get on Brilliant Lady

The restaurants are the same six, with one exception, and the exception is the interesting part.

Rojo by Razzle Dazzle is hers alone. It is Spanish-inspired, and it sits in the slot that Lucky Lotus by Razzle Dazzle occupies on Resilient Lady.

A steak served with romesco sauce at Rojo by Razzle Dazzle on Brilliant Lady
The one restaurant you cannot get on any other Lady ship.

That is the pattern worth understanding for the whole fleet now: entertainment and food are becoming ship-specific rather than identical everywhere. Sailing a different Lady is starting to mean something.

Brunch has not changed. This worried people and it should not have. You still get the Razzle Dazzle brunch you know, with a couple of items swapped out for Rojo dishes.

Two smaller ones that are easy to miss: there are new items at The Dock and Dock House, and Extra Virgin carries menu items that exist only on this ship. Ask, because they are not flagged.

What Veteran Sailors Will Notice

This is the honest section, and it is the one I would want to read. If you have never sailed Virgin Voyages, none of it will register and you can skip ahead.

The colours are muted now. Brilliant Lady’s cabins run closer to Resilient Lady than to the bright Scarlet and Valiant palette, and Rojo is far more neutral than Razzle Dazzle is elsewhere.

Christine Lozada inside a cabin on Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady
The palette is muted now, closer to Resilient Lady. That was deliberate.

That was not an accident. Sailors said the original colours were too loud, some of them loudly enough that they said they would not sail again. This is the answer to that feedback.

The bigger shift: the whole experience is less risque than it used to be. Never Sleep Alone is gone. Costuming is more tightly controlled. The edges have been sanded down.

The ships are also full now. My first sailings had around 800 people on board. I recently came off a Valiant Lady sailing with three empty cabins on the entire ship.

Those two facts are connected. A packed ship is a broader audience, and a broader audience gets programming aimed at the middle of it.

I want to be careful here, because this is an observation and not a complaint. I like the ship. It is a genuinely great experience and new sailors are going to love it.

But if you were an early sailor, you will feel the difference within a day, and you deserve to know that before you book rather than after.

One last thing that catches people out and has nothing to do with the ship: a four-night sailing out of Miami and a sixteen-night crossing are not the same holiday. Longer itineraries draw people with more time, and the whole energy on board changes with them.

Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady FAQ

Is Brilliant Lady different from the other Virgin Voyages ships?

The ship itself is nearly identical: same restaurants in the same places, same layout. What differs is the entertainment lineup, one restaurant, two redesigned spaces and a new cabin type.

Why can the Brilliant Lady sail through the Panama Canal?

She is built slightly slimmer than her sisters and the lifeboats are positioned differently. That is also why the Slightly Smaller Sea Terrace exists.

Does every Sea Terrace on Brilliant Lady have two hammocks?

No, and this is the most common misunderstanding. Only the Slightly Smaller Sea Terrace has two, and its balcony is less than half the usual size.

Has Scarlet Night been cancelled on Brilliant Lady?

No. The pool party is weather dependent. In good weather it runs as normal; in cold or wet weather it moves inside as a different version with more programming.

What restaurant is only on Brilliant Lady?

Rojo by Razzle Dazzle, which is Spanish-inspired. It occupies the slot Lucky Lotus fills on Resilient Lady.

Where does Brilliant Lady sail from?

New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Seattle, which opens up Alaska and the Pacific coast alongside the Caribbean.

So, Should You Book Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady?

If you have never sailed Virgin Voyages, yes, and you can stop reading comparisons. She is the newest ship with the strongest entertainment lineup in the fleet and nothing to unlearn.

If you have sailed before, book her for the shows, for Rojo, and for the itineraries none of the other ships can reach. Do not book her expecting a different ship, because she is not one.

New sailors are going to love her. Repeat sailors will notice the change.

And if you are deciding between her and a ship you already know, or working out which deck to book on, that is a ten-minute conversation rather than a guess. It costs you nothing to ask.
