A Mega RockStar suite is the top cabin tier on a Virgin Voyages ship, and every one of them sits together at the front of deck 15. There are four types, and the Gorgeous Suite is the smallest of them with only 9 on the ship.
I stayed in a Gorgeous Suite, and it is the Mega RockStar room sailors are most often unhappy with. The reason is not the room. The room is lovely.
Most blog posts are just about Mega RockStar will list you the perks.
This blog post is different. It’s about the actual space: the layout, the balcony, the storage, the things that genuinely confused me, and the one booking mistake that costs sailors real money.
I will be honest with you, there were a few things I preferred about my Sea Terrace. Let me walk you through all of it so you can decide whether this is the right room for you.
What Is a Mega RockStar Suite on Virgin Voyages?
Virgin Voyages has two suite tiers above the standard cabins. RockStar Quarters is the first one, and Mega RockStar sits above it.
Both come with the black wristband instead of the red one, and suites of either kind are rare. Only around 80 cabins on the whole ship are RockStar, which is roughly 6% of the rooms.
Mega RockStar is the smaller group inside that group, and it is where the biggest rooms and the deepest perks live. The clearest one is the bar: your in-room bar and fridge are stocked and included, not charged per item, and your agent restocks whatever you drink.
You also get unlimited use of the thermal suite, food delivered to the room from anywhere on the ship, and the earliest boarding time on the ship.
I have a full breakdown of every RockStar and Mega RockStar perk in a separate post, so I am not going to relist them here. This one is about the room itself, which is the part nobody shows you properly before you spend the money.
The Four Mega RockStar Suites, Smallest to Biggest
There are four Mega RockStar room types, and they are not interchangeable. The difference between the smallest and the biggest is significant.
The Gorgeous Suite. The smallest Mega RockStar room, and there are only 9 of them on the ship. This is the one I stayed in and the one this post is mostly about.
The Fab Suite and the Posh Suite. The two in the middle of the range, both larger than a Gorgeous.
The Massive Suite. The biggest room on the entire ship, and it comes with a private hot tub on the terrace.
Bigger is not automatically better, and that surprises people. The Gorgeous Suite has mood lighting run off the in-room tablet, for example, and the Massive Suite does not.
The same thing happens with sound. A Gorgeous Suite is small enough that music from the record player carries through the whole room, where in the larger suites you cannot hear it in the bedroom from the living room unless you turn it up.
Where They Are: Deck 15 Forward, and Why That Cuts Both Ways
Every Mega RockStar room is in the same place: deck 15, all the way forward. You are very high up on the ship, which is genuinely great for the views.
It is also the part of the ship that moves the most. On a rougher sailing you will feel the motion more than you would in a centrally located room.
Most sailors never notice the sea moving at all. I get motion sick very easily, so this is the honest tradeoff for me, and it is the main reason I have preferred a Central Sea Terrace on a rocky week.
The second thing about deck 15 is the main pool. Depending on exactly where your suite sits, you can hear the afternoon DJ sets and the Scarlet Night pool party.
Not every Gorgeous Suite is equally exposed to that noise, which is exactly the kind of thing worth sorting out before you book rather than after you board.

Inside the Gorgeous Suite: What the Room Is Actually Like
The room is really lovely and it feels genuinely spacious. I was sailing alone when I stayed in it, and it still did not feel like wasted space.
One thing to be clear about before you book at this price: there is no separate bedroom. The bed, the sofa and the dressing area all share one open room.
The bed is worth knowing about. RockStar room beds are a better mattress than the Sea Terrace, the Sea View or the Insider beds, and they are noticeably more comfortable.
They also do not split. If you are sailing with a parent, a friend or an adult child and you want two separate beds, a RockStar room cannot give you that, where a standard cabin can.
The couch does pull out into a large bed, so there is a second sleeping option in the room.
Here is the layout detail I did not expect to like as much as I did. Some of the other Mega RockStar rooms have a partition between the bedroom and the living space, and the Gorgeous Suite does not.
Instead, both beds face out toward the sea terrace. JC shared his Gorgeous Suite with a friend and I assumed that would be strange with no divider, but the way they set it up means you are both looking at the water rather than at each other.
What Is Already Waiting in the Room When You Board
You walk into a Mega RockStar suite on embarkation day and the room is already set up for you. This is the part that makes the tier feel different from the moment you drop your bags.
There is champagne chilling in an ice bucket with a RockStar welcome card, and it is included rather than a charge on your folio.
Snacks arrive alongside it, and your RockStar Agent will restock them on request. The robes and slippers are hanging in the bathroom waiting for you.
The fridge and the bar are stocked too, with champagne, beer, water and soft drinks, and none of it is charged per item the way a standard cabin minibar would be.
There is also a small touch I appreciated more than I expected: dedicated black makeup towels, so you are not ruining the white ones. Somebody at Virgin Voyages was paying attention.
The RockStar Bathroom, the Robes, and the Thermal Suite
The RockStar bathrooms are always a plus, and this one is a real step up from a standard cabin rather than a slightly bigger version of it.
You get a double sink, which is not standard on Virgin Voyages, and a separate tub and shower. The tub is a genuine soaking tub, not a shower sitting over a bath.
You also get the plush RockStar robes and slippers, which sound like a small thing and end up being one of the nicer parts of the week.
As a Mega RockStar you have unlimited use of the thermal suite spa on deck 5, and that raises a question I still do not have a settled answer to.
Is it acceptable to walk down there in the robe and slippers? Some sailors absolutely do it. I tried it once at 6am thinking the spa had just opened and nobody would be around, and there were already people in there.

The Balcony Is the Real Upgrade Over a RockStar Suite
If you put a Gorgeous Suite next to a Brilliant Suite, the two rooms look more or less the same inside. One is RockStar, one is Mega RockStar, and that is not obvious from the layout.
The balcony is where the difference shows up. The Mega RockStar sea terrace is significantly larger and significantly nicer.
You get a hammock, two loungers, and two doors, so you can step out from either side of the room. The terrace runs the length of the suite, which means you can eat out there without folding anything away first.
The hammock is standard in this room, not an upsell, and it is the single most photographed thing in the suite for a reason.
One warning that applies to every Virgin Voyages cabin: you have to close the balcony door handle all the way for the air conditioning to work. In a Gorgeous Suite the room is small enough that the air conditioning genuinely keeps up, where some of the larger Mega RockStar rooms only do an okay job of it.
Now the part that confused me most in the entire room, and it is out here on the balcony.
There is an outdoor shower, and it does not work out of the box. A plumber has to come and turn it on for you, which means you request it through your Mega RockStar agent.
It also only works at sea. You cannot use it while the ship is docked, or coming in and out of port, which makes sense the moment you picture an outdoor shower facing another cruise ship.
So if using that shower is part of why you are booking the room, ask your agent on day one rather than discovering it in port like I did.
What I Did Not Love About the Gorgeous Suite
I said I would be honest, so here it is: there are a few things I actually preferred about a Sea Terrace, and they are all practical rather than cosmetic.
There is nowhere to put your luggage. The wardrobe is big and it has doors that actually close, which is a genuine upgrade over the open storage in a Sea Terrace. The suitcases themselves are a different story.
I could not stash them anywhere out of sight, so they sat off to the side all week. The room is big enough that it was not a crisis, and if you travel with a lot of luggage it is going to bother you.
Some of the drawers are decoration. A couple of them open and hold things. Others do not pull out at all, which you only find out while you are unpacking.
The desk does not work as a desk. This is the one I miss most from a Sea Terrace. There is a vanity, and it is a lovely spot to do your makeup, but it is not a place to sit upright and work.
There are almost no outlets nearby either. Standing at the bar did not work for me because the bar is often wet, since as a Mega RockStar you end up hosting people in your room with drinks. The table was not comfortable to work at.
Working from the hammock outside is an option, and I would rather you did not work on a cruise at all. If you work remotely and you were counting on this room for it, that is worth knowing before you book it.

The Details That Confuse Sailors in a Mega RockStar Suite
These are the questions I get asked most about this room, and every one of them has a one line answer.
Where is the hairdryer? Inside the vanity. Not in the bathroom, which is where everyone looks first.
Where is the TV remote? Also inside the vanity. Both of them live in the same place, and neither is anywhere near where you would expect.
Can I swap the records for the record player? Barely, and this is the honest answer rather than the brochure one. Sailors do not take care of the records, and a lot of them try to take them home, so the selection on board is thin.
Virgin Voyages has moved toward a different fix for this. The newer record players let you connect your phone and play your own music through them, rather than depending on whatever records survived the last sailing.
Does the in-room bar really get refilled? Yes. As a Mega RockStar the bar in your room is unlimited, and your agent restocks what you drink.
Can I bring friends up to Richard’s Rooftop? No, and people try this constantly. A non RockStar sailor cannot come through the VIP entrance at the terminal or into Richard’s Rooftop, and there is no talking your way around it.
The Bidding Mistake That Lands Sailors in the Wrong Suite
This is the real reason the Gorgeous Suite is the Mega RockStar room sailors end up unhappy with, and it has nothing to do with the room.
Plenty of sailors do not book a Mega RockStar outright. They put in an upgrade bid instead, and bidding on a Mega is not cheap.
Here is what most of them do not know. Some of the Gorgeous Suites are accessible cabins, and those are often the ones still unsold when bids get processed.
So sailors bid a lot of money, win, and land in an accessible Gorgeous Suite they did not want. It happens, and it makes people extremely unhappy.
Once you have made the bid and Virgin Voyages has accepted it, you cannot change it. That is the part that stings.
Whether it is likely to happen to you comes down largely to how full your sailing is, and how much Mega RockStar inventory is left. That is a genuinely hard thing to read from the outside, and it is exactly the kind of call we help sailors make before they bid.

So, Is a Mega RockStar Suite on Virgin Voyages Worth It?
For the right sailor, yes, and the Gorgeous Suite is better value than its position at the bottom of the Mega RockStar range suggests. The bathroom, the bed, the wardrobe and that terrace are all real upgrades, and the mood lighting and the sound in a smaller room are things the biggest suites do not give you.
Book something else if you get motion sick easily, if you need to work from the room, or if you are traveling with someone who wants a separate bed. Those three are the honest disqualifiers, and none of them are things a photo on a booking page will tell you.
